Five Labs. Two Countries. One Global Movement.

One year ago, Tilting Futures ran two Labs in one country. Today, we’re running five Labs across two countries, serving more than twice as many students — and we’re just getting started.

This quarter alone, we launched our first summer Accelerator and a new sustainability-focused Lab in Malaysia, dramatically expanding our reach and impact.

These newest Labs bring together over 200 rising changemakers from 62 countries and counting: young people stepping up to tackle urgent issues across borders and cultures.

From Brazil to the United States, Ghana to Nepal, their journeys reflect the shared purpose and global reach at the heart of Tilting Futures. In this blog, you’ll meet just a few of the students leading the way, whose participation is made possible with the support of our donor community.

Margaret, a Global Studies major at the University of Oregon’s Clark Honors College, comes to Take Action Lab Accelerator with a deep interest in human rights, global health, and immigration. That interest first took root during a course on the US–Mexico border, which has since helped shape her academic path, including her upcoming thesis. This summer, Margaret is bringing her learning into practice in Cape Town, where she’s engaging in hands-on work as an apprentice with Philisa Abafazi Bethu.

Sofía is a sustainability and education innovator from Bolivia with experience in wildfire mitigation in the Chiquitania region and as founder of ReShapeEd, a platform focused on education reform. With a background in materials science and community-based conservation, she combines technical knowledge with a commitment to local impact. As she prepares to join the Environment & Sustainability cohort in Malaysia, Sofía brings a global lens to complex environmental challenges.

Denver is a youth leader from Zimbabwe and founder of the Anti-Drug Coalition (ADC), a student-led initiative that promotes drug abuse prevention in schools. His work is informed by personal experience and supported by his involvement in student government and his school’s International Relations Council. As he prepares to join the South Africa cohort, Denver brings with him a commitment to youth wellbeing and community-centered leadership.
