The Global Citizen Year Fellowship Experience

From 2010 – 2020, our Fellowship used the power of deep, cultural immersion to equip 1000+ young people with skills and perspectives that can’t be learned in a classroom alone.

Let’s dig in!

01 AUGUST

Global Launch

The Fellowship began with a week at Stanford University where Fellows got the foundation to make the most of their experience. They heard from world-class speakers and industry leaders at organizations like Google, Kiva, and Room to Read. Students built new friendships, and boarded their flights as part of a close-knit cohort.

02 SEPTEMBER

Country Launch

Upon landing in their host country, Fellows began easing into deep immersion. They started with a six week series of trainings, language tutoring, and progressively longer stays with host families.

03 OCTOBER – APRIL

Global Immersion & Apprenticeship

Fellows truly became part of their host family and community. At their apprenticeship Fellows worked on local projects for responsible impact. They had support from Team Leaders and friends, and the independence to shape their own experience.

04 APRIL

Re-Entry Training & Lifelong Network

The Fellowship concluded with all the Fellows reuniting in California to  make meaning of their experience and learn how to share their story to inspire change. Fellows went on to enter college with the alumni network behind them, and new opportunities to look forward to.
