Steven is passionate about social reform, education, learning about new cultures, and the chemicals that makeup all living things. In high school, he participated in numerous community service initiatives especially tutoring at his local library and he created an Andriod app designed to help people organize their medications and medical information. He aims to better understand the world around him by experiencing a new culture and learning everything he possibly can from it (like new recipes and the Portuguese language) within the next year. His favorite quote is from the podcast "Welcome to NightVale"; it reads, "The past is gone, and cannot harm you anymore. And while the future is fast coming for you, it always flinches first, and settles in as the gentle present."

2016-03-16

I’ve always been inspired by those “Photos-of-the-day” articles that surface, usually forgotten, as I peer through the headlines of Google News everyday. What does it take to get into those articles? Encountering the Unexpected

Currently, I’m sitting at a bus stop on the wrong side of the street in the pouring rain dreaming of the crisp autumn air, colorful landscapes, apple and/or pumpkin everything at home in Connecticut. Well, most of those things are true… I am sitting at a covered wooden bus stop (which happens to be adorned...

09/06/2015   Wow, I’m finally here! I made it here safely (although the eight hour flight was brutal). It’s hard to believe that after months of anticipation and “preparation,” I’m finally here in Curitiba, PR, Brazil! Now, I’m lounging on my bed, listening to music, and momentarily escaping reality so that I can write...

Distracted Thoughts

2015-09-06

8/17/2015 As the days of my summer dwindle and my suitcase sits agape in my basement, longing to be filled with the clothes strewn about my bedroom, I can’t help but lounge in my living room not quite believing that I’m going to Brazil in a little over two weeks. I know the facts: I’ll...
