Hello, y’all! My name is Spencer Watson, and I live in Prairieville, Louisiana. For the past two years, I have studied at the United World College in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Living abroad was a life-changing experience for me, and it is part of the reason that I have decided to defer from Middlebury College in order to live and serve for 7 months in Brazil with Global Citizen Year.
In preparation for my gap year, I have many things to accomplish, including obtaining a Brazilian visa and securing $2,500 for the Global Citizen Year Fellow’s Fund, which provides opportunities for high school seniors of all ethnic backgrounds the chance to experience a gap year in Ecuador, Senegal, or Brazil. Please support my campaign and keep Global Citizen Year in your thoughts – I believe that this cause will be very important in the not-so-distant future. In my opinion, there is no set timeline for college education that one should follow and taking a gap year to reevaluate one’s priorities is valuable. At least I know that is the case for me. After five years of high school (I took one extra to study at UWCiM), I am using my Global Citizen Year – among other things – to take a closer look at what is important to me and what I would like to accomplish in the future.
This blog is a way to stay in touch with my local community and friends from all over the world. Please subscribe to my blog and stay up to date with my Brazilian adventure!
