Senegal, a young country with centuries of history.
A home for 19 million people, and soon, a home for me and my new friends too.
It’s a place where no one knows my name or story, and the place where I will learn not only about myself, but from people and the land of Teranga.
It’s a place where the days are long, and the place where I will learn to live in peace with silence and love.
It’s a place where I’ve been confused by my inability to communicate, but the place where I will be able to share laughs and jokes in Wolof.
It’s a place that gave me a new family, and the place that will teach me how to be an older sister and a more responsible daughter.
It’s a place where I’ve cried from homesickness and overwhelming emotions, but the place that will teach me to be strong and patient.
Oh, beautiful and colorful Senegal, we still have so much to learn about each other, and I’m happily looking forward to the next six months.
