I was set on posting a semi sappy blog reassuring the people I love that I
was no longer scared, but rather at ease with my thoughts about the month
ahead. Well that was a week ago, and now I’m sitting in my dorm after
saying too many goodbyes with only six hours until I leave Stanford and
head to Ecuador. So yeah news update: I’m scared.
However, the fear isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It’s one of the main
contributing factors to meaningful growth. And on top of that fear is a
great excitement, an excitement I’ve never known before, an excitement I
hope to never lose. This past week has shown me that it is only the unknown
that we fear, and once we are present in the moment there is truly nothing
to be afraid of. If let to flourish we are wonderfully resilient and
adaptable creatures.
So now I leave you. And I come back….a better person? A more informed
member of society? Well there is no way to know, is there? And while you’re
staring at your screen, frustrated that you now have more questions to
answer than when you started, be thankful. Be thankful that you are aware
and contributing to the never-ending mass of unanswered questions that will
forever enhance our society. Because I know, from 4,000 miles away, that I
will (or at least I will try my best while eating, or dancing, or whatever
I will be doing in my new home ((stay tuned)).
