All my life I broke boundaries that were set before me. As a child growing up in the South Bronx, I felt as though society had already dictated my future. My community is filled with people who do not really want much out of life; only seeking to make money. From a young age, I knew that I did not want to live my life the same way.
There is nothing like witnessing the world and stepping out of your comfort zone to embark on a journey. To me traveling is more than just going to another state or country, instead it is the opportunity to obtain knowledge. When you know better, you do better. That goes to say that I now know that there are people in the world that are in greater need than myself and it is my goal to do better so that they are in less need. As a result of my love to travel, I now have a greater appreciation of my life and have become more motivated to achieve a better life for my family and I.
Through my personal journey I`ve illustrated to the next generation of all the endless possible there are in the world. It has also given me the opportunity to reflect on my life and to absorb information that would better enhance someone`s knowledge of the world.
As I analyze the people in my surroundings, I realize that because they were not given the opportunity to see what I have seen, they are limited in what they know. Perception is a key factor in knowledge. In some individual’s life they may never be given the opportunity to travel, but this doesn’t mean they shouldn’t have the chance to imagine or learn about different places in the world. By the way my name is Toni White and that’s my story. This October, I`m leaving for Brazil with the hopes of taking the world on the journey of the unheard.
