I signed up for Global Citizen Year after my plans for college didn't go as I expected. I applied after the deadline therefore I didn't really expect this to pan out, I was delighted to find out that I had been admitted and would be a 2017 Ecuador fellow. To help pay for the program I worked the whole summer so I didn't have much time to the program and country I would be spending the next year with. When people would ask what I was doing in the fall I would give a short spiel about doing cultural immersion. But I couldn't really give a comprehensive answer because I myself didn't know what I was doing. Not knowing what I was getting myself into I boarded a plane to the west coast to meet around a hundred fellows. At pre departure training I heard stories and ideas from people who wanted to change the world, lead, teach and help make the world a better a place. I met people who inspired me, people who are going to change the world in big and small ways. PDT was the affirmation that I needed it showed me that not only was this bridge year the right choice but the choice that will put me on the path to become who need to be. With confidence I can now say what I will be doing for the next seven months. I will be living in Valle Del Chota an Afro-Ecuadorian community in the Imbabura region. I will be living with Olga, Fabio and their three daughters. My apprenticeship will be at a cultural center, women's group and organic farm. These next month I will learning a foreign language pushing myself beyond my limits and learning how to become a global change maker.
