When I was 22, I decided to move to the United States. I had two children already, aged 4 and 5. I tried to get a visa, but they just told me that I was too young. But I had to support my children, and I wanted a better future for them. So I left my children with my parents here in Sigsig, packed all my bags, and traveled to the US. I bought my documents in Mexico from another person and traveled up north to New Haven, Connecticut. It wasn’t too hard to immigrate undocumented back then, although extremely expensive. But now with the new president — a racist — it’s much more difficult and dangerous. He doesn’t want people from my country coming to the United States.
I liked my life in the United States. My husband also immigrated there, as well as many people from Sigsig which made it feel more like home. In the US I gave birth to my third child, but watching her as a baby made me remember what it was like to be with my other two children. I missed them so much, and although we talked almost every day, after a while I knew I had to return to see them. So I moved back to Sigsig with my husband and third child and reunited with the rest of my family. It was the first time I’d seen my other two children in 11 years.
Now I live in Sigsig with my 3 children, and also my grandchild from my eldest daughter.

Yo viví 11 años en los Estados Unidos. Cuando tenía 22 años, decidí migrar para dar un mejor futuro a mis hijos. Tenía 2 hijos cuando me fui, de 4 y 5 años. Dejé a mis hijos con mis padres en Sigsig, y fui a México. Traté de sacar una visa para viajar, pero me dijeron que era muy joven y no me dieron. Entonces en México compré una visa falsa de otra persona, aunque costó mucho. Era más fácil migrar en ese entonces, ahora es mucho más difícil con el nuevo presidente. La frontera está más controlada, con más personas de migración y militares. El presidente ahora es muy racista.
Me gusto mi vida allá en Estados Unidos. Mi esposo también migró, y también mucha gente de Sígsig estaba en New Haven. Allá mi tercera hijo nació, y fue muy difícil porque al verle a ella recordaba más a mis otros hijas, cuando estaban pequeñas. Las extrañaba mucho, aunque hablaba todo los dias con ellas. Por eso regresé a verlas. Entonces me mudé con mi esposa y mi otra hija a Sigsig. Volví a ver a mis otras hijas por primera vez en 11 años.
Ahora todavía vivo en Sígsig con mis 3 hijas, y mi nieto de mi primera hija.
