Hello, I am Heather Kurtz, a 2012 Global Citizen Year Fellow. When I was told to write about myself I said “Not again!” I am the salutatorian of my class and have had to write about myself many times already. But for you who read this I will do it one more time!
I live in Port Byron, NY with my mom, dad, sister, brother, and grandmother. I have grown up on a farm raising dairy cows and growing corn and soybeans. When I was two I would walk under the cows to help my dad milk them, and I never got kicked. I am an active member of the community; I teach Sunday school at my Methodist Church, and I am a Gold Award Girl Scout. I earned My Gold Award by hosting an adventure day for girls to experience new activities.
I am a sports participant. I am an avid runner and triathlete. My first triathlon was the Aflac Iron Girl on July 29th, 2009. Besides running my favorite activities are whitewater kayaking and mountain climbing. My current job is life-guarding and I am writing this on my break. I chose to participate in Global Citizen Year because I did not get into college. I ended up finding GCY through my cousin. I did research and found that GCY is a fabulous program that will send me around the world. Since my 2005 People to People trip to France, Italy, and Greece I have wanted to see the world. Before I die I want to go to every country in the world to experience their way of life. I am glad to have this opportunity to go to Ecuador. I know this will be a life changing experience where I will learn about Ecuador, myself, and improve my Spanish.
