HOLA AMIGOSSS
Today is a Wednesday night in Chile. I came back from Singapore something like 2 months ago, and after some traveling around, I could open the window and observe the old port of Valparaíso. It’s a city full of colors, life, tragedy, and comedy. Life is intense here. Valparaiso is a city composed of 42 hills, and people go up and downhill the whole day, to find themselves on the ‘plan’ or city center, where you can always find a friend. Life is- After living 2 years abroad in Singapore, thanks to UWCSEA, I learned to appreciate my home country. Some people say that you never know what you have until you lose it, and I think it’s quite true. I love the incoherence in daily life, understanding the absurd as part of life, and always finding a new passage to take with me to home. By the end of the day, I get many moments that are hard to forget.
So, here I am. I have no age., but my mom says I have 19. I am from Coquimbo, but I have lived my whole life in Valparaiso, Chile. I lived in Singapore for 2 years, where I finished High School. It was an experience that gave me the opportunity to widen my understanding of many cultures and education, and there I met great people, with dreams and challenges to achieve. Now I will embark on a new adventure very very soon!! India is. India and the mystery that it involves.
Why a Gap Year? I wanted to take a Gap Year because once I got into UWC, uni advisors showed me many options and places to go. So, it made me open my eyes and reflect about where I really wanted to go. I thought I maybe wanted to go back home, or what about if not? Perhaps somewhere else. So, I started questioning myself about future decision such as universities, career, studies,. a new world opened for me, and I didn’t know what to do with it. I needed time to think and find my vocation. Although I think you don’t have to necessarily work the rest of your life on the career that you studied, it could be good to spend your time in something that you enjoy. Believed or not, I came to that thought after a while.. and then I also added, I am young, I need some time to think better and to discover new things. In Singapore I didn’t feel complete with the Social Service, so I wanted to be more immersed in that, and why not to take a gap year?
Why India? When I think about India it means colours (I love art, therefore I love colours), chaos, interesting food, smells, dancing, singing.., but of course, these are all ideas that I got from people I have met from India (all of them, amazing friends!) and what I have read somewhere. All this aroused an immense curiosity in me. I think it will be enormously challenging in different aspects and that also motivates me a lot. I am also really excited about working with children and/or women organization (I don’t know yet where I’ll work, but I love both of the possible ideas). So, India sounds beautiful on my mind, and I want to see how it really is.
It’s winter here, and I’m enjoying the cold because I know it would go away soooooon!!
