Today, I am embarking on the journey of a lifetime. I am taking my first substantial steps towards the passions that have been resonating within me since I was a sagacious eight year old, curiously flipping through 1980’s zoology textbooks. My great love for animals, combined with my desire to learn from experience, and cultivate self, have pushed me towards a Gap Year I am truly proud (& excited!) to begin. Passion & Curiosity have always been closely entangled motivators for me, and as I boarded the plane to San Francisco today, they were my nerves greatest allies. I am unaware of what to expect in these next few days, weeks, and months, but I am prepared to give everything I have towards this transformative period of life. Even now, as I sit in the comfort of this ludicrously nice airplane (free wifi & snacks, hello!) I feel the pull of adventure from a foreign part of the world I will soon call home. Although I have experienced a unique amount of independence in my High School Career (from boarding school to Early College), my families arms were always ready to catch me if I fell. Now, as a newly minted adult, the safety net is still strong, but muffled by the distance. But rather than this deter me, I am excited for this great opportunity for growth. Although, unlike most of my fellow graduates, I will not be heading to an official classroom, I am prepared to engage as a Global Scholar in everything I do, so I may be the best Global Citizen.
P.S. Please disregard any errors in my writing, it is technically midnight, but my East Coast mind is positive it’s three a.m. 🙂
