I’m waiting for my moment to come, I’m waiting for the movie to begin, I’m waiting for a revelation, I’m waiting for someone to count me in.

Before Global Citizen Year I was waiting for something more… more than just the expected path. Graduate high school, go to college, graduate college, fall in love, get married, have kids, live happily ever after. Basically, Exhibit A of a cookie cutter life (not that there’s anything wrong with that). I just wanted more, and GCY gave it to me.
So what am I waiting for now? I guess the simplest answer is the beginning. Sometime around mid-September I will be leaving the life I have known for the past eleven years in North Carolina. I will fly back across the US to my native west, engage in a type of learning that doesn’t base itself in a classroom, fly to Senegal on the other side of the world, and dive right into the polar opposite of life as I now know it.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m scared of the unknown just as much as any person is. Yet, it is more a nervous excitement that seems to be building in me. I can say I am more than ready to get this show on the road.
Global Citizen Year was the moment that came to me. They counted me in when I was accepted. My movie has begun, but I’m only in the opening credits. As for my revelation? I know it will be a winding and spiraling path, but I don’t know where it leads. Who knows? But I’ll keep you updated.
